Whether you live on a farm or have never stepped foot on one, we'd like to introduce you to some innovative farmers who are improving our food system one harvest at a time. Our farmers are leading the way in small-scale, sustainable farming in Manitoba, reducing chemical inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides, and conserving valuable resources such as water and local ecosystems.
Are you curious to know how these small-scale farmers can make a profit while putting in the extra time and money to give their plants and animals the best care possible? Join us on a tour to find out!
2011 Tours
Thank you to the 36 participants who attended our 2011 farm tours. Our August From Seed to Market tour included stops at Blue Lagoon Organics in St. Francois Xavier and Littlepath Farm in Minnedosa. The Livestock Tour in October took us to Zinn Farms, Philgo Farms Ltd., and All Natural Meats. Farmers shared their expertise on growing vegetables for direct markets, raising pastured livestock without synthetic hormones or antibiotics, and processing and distributing meat locally.
Here's what our participants had to say:
"I really enjoyed the farm tour today. It is really nice to get a farmer's perspective and knowledge on farming. It's the kind of stuff you can't learn in books."
"I appreciate that the farmers encouraged all questions. One of the benefits of these farm tours, for me, is the networking between participants."
"It turned into a great networking day - awesome!"
