The CFIA has announced that the Organic Products Regulations will come into force June 30, 2009, not December 14, 2008 as previously stated.  The published amendment can be found at

Organic Federation of Canada - Fédération biologique du Canada

The Organic Food Council of Manitoba Chair, Janine Gibson, sits on the Board of Directors of the Organic Federation of Canada - Fédération Biologique du Canada (OFC-FBC).  OFC-FBC represents the Canadian organic industry, advancing federal policy dialogue from the perspective of the organic sector.  OFC-FBC reports to and advises the Canadian Organic Office (COO) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, demonstrating the organic sector's commitment to a voice and responsibility in the ongoing development of organic standards and regulations. 

The federation will coordinate the development of:

-National organic standards
-Industry comments on regulations and policies/quality management systems
-Strategic planning and organizational development activities for provincial and territorial representation at the national level
-Developing supportive federal policies and programs, particularly with respect to development of a positive trade environment for organic sector products.

The Organic Food Council of Manitoba will post minutes, reports, articles, and other resources from OFC-FBC and the Canadian Organic Office on this page.  Please check back regularly for more information.

Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) and the Organic Permitted Substances List

The PMRA affects what substances can be listed in the Permitted Substances List of the National Organic Standard. Organic operators need to lobby the provincial Minor Use Input Coordinators to ensure organic materials are made a priority of inclusion on their review lists. The files below offer information about the Minor Use Pesticide Program and the Pesticide Risk Reduction Program, as well as overviews of the "A"-Priorities-Without-Solution (APWS) Entomology, Herbicide, and Pathology workshops that took place on April 1 - 3, 2008.
