More regulations coming for Organic Producers

Dear COG Supporter,

Recently, we wrote to you about the proposed Safe Food for Canadian Regulations (SFCR) which are open for public consultation. We have recently reviewed these regulations in partnership with the Organic Federation of Canada, The Canada Organic Trade Association and with members of the Organic Value Chain Roundtable Table.

The SFCR will mean major changes for all Agricultural Operators but will include very specific impacts for the Organic Sector because the Organic Products Regulation (OPR), our sector’s governing regulation, will be housed in the SFCR. In moving our regulation, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has also taken the opportunity to make amendments to the OPR. It is our opinion that many of these changes will be detrimental to the success of organic operators across the country.

Read the proposed SFCR here.

Our partners at the Canada Organic Trade Association will be hosting a Webinar on Tuesday, March 7th at 3pm EST to highlight the areas of concern and opportunities that the Safe Food For Canadians Regulations will bring to the organic sector and all members of the public are invited to attend. This webinar will also be recorded and shared afterwards if you can’t make it.

Join the webinar, and find out more about the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and what it means for the Organic Sector.
